FAFSA (Free Application For Federal Student Aid) priority deadline is fast approaching!

The priority deadline to file your FAFSA for the 2019-2020 academic year is March 2, 2019. Completing Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is your first step in determining what and how much financial aid you may qualify for in 2019-2020. Here are things to remember:

1. Before you get started, make sure that you have your FSA ID ready. The FSA ID is your username and the password you used to log in to your FAFSA. If you are required to provide parent(s) information, they will need an FSA ID as well. To create your FSA ID click the button below:

2. If you are renewing your FAFSA for 2019-2020 academic year, most of your demographic and identification information will pre-populate. You will want to verify all pre-populated information, and make any corrections or updates. Pre-populated information includes your name, address, telephone number, email, Social Security Number, and driver’s license number.

3. You will also be reporting your 2017-income information. If you and your parents file your 2017 taxes by the time the FAFSA form launches, you will be able to import your tax information into the FAFSA form using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool (DRT).

Not everyone is eligible to use the IRS DRT. Please know the IRS DRT does not input all the financial information required on the FAFSA form. Therefore, you should have your 2017 tax return and 2017 IRS W-2 available for reference.

4. Be prepared to provide any untaxed income information. Not everyone has untaxed income. Examples include child support received, interest income (bank accounts), Veteran’s non-education benefits. FAFSA will request your savings and checking account balances, as well as any investments, like stocks, bonds, and real estate. When it comes to real estate, they want to know about properties owned other than the home where you and your family live in.

5. Finally, you will want to verify or add any college(s) you are considering on attending, even if you have not applied yet.

Important Reminder!
File by the priority deadline, MARCH 2, 2019
